How Much Does Dinner Cost You?

Just more proof that the "mainstream" media has no clue. And I love how they've closed down the comments for this article. ha! They certainly can't take the heat and need to get out of the kitchen. Since they won't accept comments in the article I must utilize my blog.

"As The Early Show Saturday Edition's "Chef on a Shoestring," Freitag sought to take a traditional, three-course spaghetti dinner and give it a little twist any family would love - on our new, lower, recession-busting budget of $35."(emphasis mine)

First of all...Rigatoni is not Spaghetti. If I order spaghetti in a restaurant and got what they are serving I'd be ticked.

Second of all ... what kind of frugal lifestyle includes goat cheese and pistachios? I'd eat neither of those two things regardless of my financial situation, but still, a frugal meal does not include them.

Third of all ... "recession-busting budget of $35" FOR ONE MEAL!?!?!?!?!?! It doesn't even cost hubby and I $35 to eat out at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I can create a meal for less than $5 for two people. Heck, when it's just me I can eat for less than $0.50. I still like Top Ramen. Add a couple slices of cheese and it's even better.

Realistically though, a few dollars per person per meal is frugal for us. I've managed to get our meals cheaper lately through the use of coupons. I got over three pounds of lean ground turkey for $1.50 the other day. I made meatballs and tacos - we're still eating the tacos - and those two recipes lasted us at least eight single meals (four for me, four for hubby). And I know that I did not spend more than $35 on all the ingredients for those eight meals.

What is it with the liberal elite? I didn't even know what Arugula was until this election cycle. Our meals are fancy if we have all four food groups represented. Our standard veggie ranges from peas, carrots, corn, or green beans. Cauliflower and broccoli are too much effort though we do have those occasionally.

The snobbery evident in this piece of fluff "journalism" is nauseating.

What a bunch of idiots. They don't have a clue do they? They don't have a clue how most folks are just trying to keep a roof over their heads and feed their families. Yep, they had to turn the comments off.

Have a terrific day. :)

Isn't it amazing? And, I've seen some of these "recession buster" dinners they prepare. Holy cow!
That works out to nearly $250 per week, just for dinners. What is a family weekly food bill going to be? $500 or more?
We eat out once a week, and our weekly bill for the 2 of us is maybe $75 or so for all other meals.
