I Won't Drive in It

Seattle is apparently set to go forward with plans for our own version of the Big Dig.

We have a viaduct here that is crumbling. Queen Christine ran in 2004 claiming that replacing the viaduct was vital and people were in imminent danger.

Um...yeah, it still hasn't been replaced and there has been plenty of arguing over what to replace it with.

The powers that be have decided it wise to replace a large bridge, with 110,000 vehicles traveling on it daily, with a tunnel.

Let me just remind some of you about where Seattle sits ... on a massive fault line where we have been told for years to predict "the big one" with massive destruction. Oh, and did I mention that much of Seattle sits on built up "land" created directly on the tidelands. It's not exactly stable and we've been warned that it (the "land") could liquefy in a big earthquake.

Oh, and this tunnel will be underground - right next to Puget Sound. It will be TWO miles long with no way out except the other end. There will be no way for hazardous materials to travel except directly through downtown on I-5.

Imagine the nightmare any accident will create - for those stuck in traffic and those trying to help. I think I'd have a panic attack.

I think they made a movie about a scary tunnel. *sigh*

Somehow I doubt that the great planners of this boondoggle will stick within their estimated $4.5 BILLION budget or 6-7 year time line. I'm sure in 20 years we'll have *something* new.

Harry is Not a Bigot

I saw a news report on Fox this weekend about Prince Harry and his so called "racial slurs."

First of all, when I heard what he'd said I just rolled my eyes. Those are the most lame racial slurs I've ever heard. "Paki" and "towel head" ???

I've never even heard the term Paki, but if it is truly as offensive as calling someone a "Jap" over here then he probably shouldn't have said it. Except that he was joking around with his friends. I doubt any of them were highly offended.

Second of all - it happened THREE f'ing years ago. And this is news why? Slow news day with all the bombing and killing going on in the world? This is what they want to focus on?

I feel bad for this kid. He can't go to the john without someone knowing about it. It's not like he asked to be the prince. He's young and he's in the military - I know what young military mouths can sound like and it ain't pretty.

People just need to lay off.

No Trip for Me

Well, drat. I had planned to head up to Seattle yesterday and join the rally in support of Israel, but it didn't happen for me. Life sometimes gets in the way. It's a good thing in this case, but I can't really share the details as it's sort of very personal. :)

Anyhoo...the weekend was great. Albertsons had double coupon coupons so I was able to spend $27 and save $49 on groceries in one trip and then save over $20 in the next trip. I love coupons. Have I mentioned that?

Timber got to come with me and Trooper to agility on Sunday. It took me 20 minutes to get him from the car to the field ... he'd pull I'd stop, he'd stop, we'd start again and off he went. One of these days I will get him to walk on a loose leash. Once there I threw the ball for another 30 minutes and he was so tired and muddy by the time we left that I knew I would have a nice tired dog...for a few hours at least. A tired dog is a good dog.

I watched another episode of The War by Ken Burns. It is an amazing documentary but I almost feel like I want more - more details - more history. I'm such a geek when it comes to WWII. Each episode is almost 2 hours long and there are at least 7 or 8 episodes. And I want MORE. =) So far only one has made me cry ... though I was tired at the time. I have one more episode to watch but need to find the two hours needed to sit and focus.

Work should kill me this week. It's peaks and valleys with us - and we are at a peak (wait ... is it peek or peak?). Everything seems to hit at once so if I'm a little more quiet than usual you know why. I really want to keep my job and my paycheck.

Don't You Hate It?

When you have a crappy day at work? I was supposed to be off ten minutes ago but I'm stuck waiting for a coworker to get out of a meeting so I can go over a few things with her. She's always late and running behind...it's chronic.

But that's not why I'm having a bad work day. Only one thing went right and everything just sucked total suckage. Numbers didn't match up. I forgot to make a change my boss wanted. The stupid database isn't pulling the data properly.

Arg!

I'm glad it's Friday. I certainly wouldn't want to come back in tomorrow.

Tonight I shall make jewelry, eat sugar free Butterscotch jello, and go to bed. Oh wait, I need to go to the store. My milk coupons are expiring today. DRAT! Oh well, maybe I'll just let them expire. I hate doing that though. It's a few dollars.

And People Think She's Stupid?

I really still don't get the whole "Sarah Palin is an Idiot" meme that the mainstream media and liberals (and even some conservatives) hold to even today. It's clear that she knows what she is doing and she is a smart and strong woman.

I really like this interview with her. She continues to have my support - I won't hero worship her like "The One's" followers - but I like her snark and style. My hope is that she makes it to Washington (maybe a Jindal / Palin administration) and can work to shrink government. Less government IS the answer!

GOP Can Suck It

Son of a Bitch.

I didn't become a Republican eight years ago (well, really eight years in September) for them to become a bunch of pussies.

Listening to Rush Limbaugh can get my blood boiling and today is no exception. Apparently the Senate GOPers had a retreat meeting and were told that they need to be moderate, not criticize the new president, and to be concerned with the survival of the Northeastern Republicans.

What. The. Fuck.

They can all kiss my conservative ass. This pisses me the hell off. I say kick all of them out and replace them with REAL conservatives who stand true to the conservative ideals that will actually help our country recover and survive.

SMALL government - the size of the government is astounding and completely out of control - slash and cut departments and programs and pork.

And if we achieve smaller government then most of the other stuff will fall into place. I'm less concerned with moral issues ... those generally take care of themselves. I am not passionate about gays in the military or stem cell research. I don't think government should fund abortions but I don't think they should be outlawed either.

I want Sarah Palin in Washington DC.
